Our History

The Sportstop, Inc. was founded in 1978 by Jay Rogers. The history of sporting goods in the Rogers family dates back to 1939 when Jay's father, Lee Rogers, purchased Spaulding Sporting Goods in downtown Little Rock. For nearly 50 years, Spaulding was one of the finest sporting goods stores in Arkansas.

Upon graduating from the University of Arkansas where he was a student trainer for the football team, Jay worked for Spaulding for about 10 years. He then decided to open his own sporting goods business in west Little Rock. Two years later Lee sold his interest in Spaulding and came to work for the Sportstop team.

In 2005 Jay's son, James Rogers, joined Sportstop to become the third generation of his family to be involved in sporting goods. He graduated from Texas Christian University and worked as a CPA for 10 years prior to joining Sportstop.

The company now has eleven full-time employees, including four road salesmen, and is the leading athletic supplier in Arkansas.
